Spanish for Medical Emergencies:
Me caí, no puedo levantarme!
If you were at yesterday's Medical Spanish Seminar, you would know that translates into "I've fallen and I can't get up!" It was a huge success. One participant stated, "I was pleased to see how many folks attended and everyone seemed genuinely interested. Johann was great - I thought very "supportive" of everyone's efforts, encouraging, just great all around." Our instructor was Johann Benavides of Green Mountain Academy, a member of the Action Alliance. During this interactive seminar, he taught participants basic Spanish required to receive the best care possible during emergency situations. They learned how to provide directions to their homes; how to describe any symptoms they may be experiencing; how to communicate what medications they may be taking; and other words and phrases relevant in emergency situations. Participants were provided with a handout that can be posted on their refrigerators with useful medical Spanish terminology, illustrations of the body and its parts identified in Spanish, and a link to an e-book with English/Spanish translations for more extensive information. Following are links to the information contained in the handout: Personal Basics -Introductions, Giving Your Address, Medical Conditions & Illnesses Human Body Diagram Labeled in Spanish - Front Human Body Diagram Labeled in Spanish - Back Human Body Diagram Labeled in Spanish - Internal Organs Human Body Diagram Labeled in Spanish - Skeletal System Commonly Asked Medical Questions - Doctor to Patient Links to Materials for Further Study If you missed the seminar, don't worry, we plan to offer it again in several months. But in the meantime, here are some photos from this go-round and a link to the article that the Tico Times ran about the seminar on July 29, 2011. |
