| Description: | The community Action Alliance is only a true community group if it has a strong education component. Volunteers Fostering Education (VFE) has formed an “allied partnership” with the Community Action Alliance. This partnership shares purpose and goals and has the formal commitment to work together to realize these common principles. By forming the Alliance’s Education Committee, VFE provides four years of experience working with many of San Ramon’s educational institutions. This partnership between CAA and VFE provides synergy to both organizations. VFE provides a “turn-key” educational component with a cadre of committed volunteers, relationships with various educational institutions and compatible goals that offers Members of the Alliance a ready-made structure within which to volunteer. |

| Initiatives/Programs: | For the past four years VFE has provided Native English speaking volunteers to ITCR’s twelve levels of English Instruction. Over 1500 young Costa Ricans have been helped to speak better English. Our volunteers have participated in the Instituto Nacional Apprendizaje (INA) providing individuals, couples and even VFE families with language training for three years. VFE volunteers have adopted area escuelas in the communities they live in. A commitment is made by the VFE volunteer to provide various types of assistance to the escuela they have adopted. Teaching English and art, raising funds and in-kind donations, and helping to produce fund raising events have all been undertaken by our native English speaking volunteers. VFE participated for two years in the University of Costa Rica’s English Teacher Training Program providing native English speaking volunteers. VFE provided volunteers to UCR for the first rapid responder program training transit police to relate to English speaking residents and tourists. As the first in a series, VFE is now co-producing a Rapid Responder English training program with Cruz Roja for their volunteers. The Rapid Responder Program will go on to include police, fire fighters, emergency room personnel and 911 operators. |
