Steering Committee

Description:   It is the job of the Steering Committe, as the name implies, to direct the focus and direction of the Community Action Alliance. However this is not done in a vacuum; listening to the views and desires of our membership, as well as others who may attend our events, plays a major part in the Committee's decisions and plans.

Jacki and I are gypsies…at one point or another we have lived in 10 of the 50 states in the U.S. and have traveled extensively visiting over 30 countries around the world. We frequently found ourselves reading the want ads trying to figure out if we could find a way to live in many of the countries we visited. Unfortunately, Tuscany was not an option (too expensive) and there was no way Jacki would live in Chang Mai, Thailand.   Read more...

I moved from Maine to Costa Rica in 2006 with my husband, parents (both in their 80s), 2 dogs, and 2 cats. We found our paradise in the not-too-hot/not-too-cool weather of the mountains to the west of San Ramon, 10 minutes outside of town. We live on 4 acres bordered on three sides by a river with several waterfalls and pools, banana and coffee plants, and jungle filled with howlers, white-faced monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots, and a multitude of birds we haven’t yet learned to identify. My eclectic life includes careers in business, non-profit, youth programs, and social work. I have developed, directed, raised funds for, and consulted on a variety of innovative programs that enriched people’s lives.

I graduated from Hobart College with a B.A. in economics and social sciences and went to work for Bertram Yacht Company as the director of advertising and public relations. After nine years in business, I found it held little interest in my life.

We came to Costa Rica to simplify our lives and to retire less expensively than we ever could in the United States.  Since there is a 10 year difference in our ages, we also didn’t want to wait until we were both at retirement age to start living a new life.  We are both still very busy but no longer working full-time jobs and only being as busy as we want to be.  Pressure and stress are not part of our lives in Costa Rica. One of our priorities is our website, www.retireforlessincostarica.com, which we developed in 2008. The goal of our web site is to give people who share the dream of retiring in Costa Ricaa place to learn about life here, ask questions, and find helpful products and services.
