Blankets for Babies
Each month, the Blankets for Babies team produces newborn products to give to underprivileged mothers at Hospital Carlos Luis Valverde Vega, at the north end of San Ramon Central. The packets include handmade items: a plastic mat, a blanket, five burpies, a hat, a toy, and a mask for mom. This group has provided 20 packets per month to the hospital for the past four years!
How you can help: Donate terry cloth for burpies, soft material/flannel for blankets and sheets for blanket backing, T-shirt material for mask filters, soft wool for knitted/crocheted baby hats, plastic matting for ground/changing pads, and a soft cotton fabric to make stuffed toys. Ropa Americana is a great place to go hunting for these items if you don’t have them at home. Of course, donations to help defray the cost would be greatly appreciated. (Each packet costs about 8,000 colones [$12.50 US] for supplies.)
