Tamales Christmas

Volunteer for Tamales Christmas on December 22 and 23:  Would you like to help the village women of Baja Tajares celebrate a much-loved tradition this Christmas? The Tamale is a traditional Christmas food for both the Nicaraguan and Tico communities, but most people in this barrio do not have the resources to make them. The CAA Cultural & Social committee will purchase the ingredients for the Tamales. Together, CAA volunteers and the women of the village will make these special treats to give to their families and neighbors. Last year, over 600 tamales were made and distributed with the women of Baja Tajares.

Baja Tajares is a barrio of 350 located in the heart of San Ramon where most live in homes considered slums. The population is 98% women with their children and often their elderly relatives. Most of these women have no jobs and are unable to provide for their loved ones – the nutrition, education, and lifestyle that would enable them to thrive with dignity, health, and vigor.

Tamales Christmas has become an annual CAA Cultural & Social program. Please contact Nancy Sperry at nancy@actionalliancecr.com to volunteer from 10am-1pm or 12pm-3pm on Tuesday, December 22, or Wednesday, December 23.
